ST. PETERSBURG - Studio@620 presents an intimate evening of avant garde jazz and improvisation with "The Clinic" Quartet on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m.
Listen to atmospheric and improvised jazz with "The Clinic" featuring four fine multi-instrumentalists: David Pate (saxophones/woodwinds), Jim Stewart (drums/world percussion), Bill Folwell (bass, trumpet) and Ella "Stella" Fredrickson (theremin/amplified cello).
The Clinic was founded by David Pate as an avenue to explore different sound-scapes. The music is spontaneously improvised within subtle guidelines allowing for constantly changing textures, timbres and direction. The result is an explosion of musical voices that range from ambient atmospheres to raging free-jazz; always leading the listener (and performers) into uncharted and unexpected musical domains. The Clinic lays claim to creative performances, innovative and serious fun - that never sounds the same way once.
The ensemble’s members are highly seasoned performers of improvisational music, having performed in the not-so-long- ago past with legendary jazz musicians: Ira Sullivan, Nat Adderly, Eugene Chadbourne, Sam Rivers and Albert Ayler.
Admission is offered on a Pay What You Can basis.
The Studio@620 is a nonprofit arts venue located at 620 First Ave. South, St. Petersburg.
