Palladium schedules top shows for last of January

ST. PETERSBURG - Variety seems to be the buzz word for entertainment venues around Pinellas this January, and The Palladium Theater is doing its part with performances of jazz, blues, classical and more on its calendar.

Side Door Jazz presents Brazil and Beyond Phil Picciotti with special guest Nate Najar on Thursday, Jan. 18, 7:30 p.m., at the Palladium Theater. Tickets are $20.

Picciotti loves Latin, from sultry bossa nova favorites to hot-blooded sambas. He'll add to the mix with European, Spanish and American ballads for an evening of sensational song.

Paul Wilborn and the Blue Roses - Fever: A Peggy Lee Celebration - part of ths American Songbook Series is set for Friday, Jan. 19, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.

This blonde from North Dakota managed to be both the hottest and coolest singer in America’s pop and jazz pantheon. A night of Peggy Lee songs featuring behind the scenes stories and hits from Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart and the great Miss Peggy Lee herself.

Encore Concert No. 1: Florida Orchestra Chamber Players will please classical music fans on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 7:30 p.m. Tickets range in price from $12 to $20.

Program will include works by Mendelssohn, Mozart and the world premier of the "Palladium Brandenburg No. 1," By Dr. Vernon A. Taranto, Jr., composer. Talkback host will be Stefan Sanderling, music director for The Florida Orchestra.

Side Door Jazz: Michael Royal is coming on Thursday, Jan. 25, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Combine pedigree and polish with the undaunted pursuance of excellence and a natural love of playing music to discover the piano artistry of Michael Royal. While his superb technique and sophisticated style reflect his classical training, Royal is a hard driving pianist deeply rooted in the jazz tradition.

Claire Lynch Band with Jack Williams will entertain on Friday, Jan. 26, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18.

By any measure, the Claire Lynch Band is high on the bluegrass world's A-List, with musicians whose accolades include International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Female Vocalist of the Year and Grammy nominations for Best Bluegrass Album; five IBMA Bass Player of the Year awards and two IBMA Guitar Player of the Year awards.

Florida Orchestra Chamber Orchestra Mozart, Haydn & Beethoven Program will include Mozart, "Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major," "K. 219 Turkish" featuring Jeffrey Multer, violin; Haydn, "Symphony No. 72 in D Major;" and Beethoven’s, "Leonore Overture No. 3" on Saturday, Jan. 27, 8 p.m. Tickets are $25.

Jeffrey Siegel An American Salute "A Keyboard Conversation" will begin the month's performances on Friday, Feb. 2, 7:30 p.m. Tickets range in price from $15 to $35.

Long a favorite at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, Siegel’s "Keyboard Conversations" combine an incomparable performance of piano masterpieces with an entertaining and informative discussion of the music and its background.
