Allen Stone's Jan. 25 show at The Mahaffey Theater is canceled of of Jan. 22.
ST. PETERSBURG – The Mahaffey Theater announced Jan. 22 that Allen Stone has canceled his Jan. 25 concert. Refunds are available at point of purchase.

Up-and-coming emerging musician and songwriter Allen Stone, who hails from Cheweleh, Wash., calls himself a “hippie with soul.”

The accolades this 25-year-old has amassed over the last four years range from “pitch-perfect powerhouse,” to “the artist to watch” to comparisons to Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Bill Withers.

Stone had been scheduled to bring his socially-conscious music to The Mahaffey Theater for a concert on Friday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. Tickets for this special performance were $15. Refunds are available.

Like many soul singers, Stone got his start in church. The son of a preacher, he began leading worship at his church and played the guitar. He discovered classic ‘60s and ‘70s music while a teenager and first heard Stevie Wonder’s Innervisions album at the age of 15.

Stone moved to Seattle to pursue a musical career and has spent the last four years crisscrossing the country in a van with his band playing any small club that would have him. Since the digital release of his self-titled album, Allen Stone (2011), he has been selling out from coast to coast. The album jumped into the Top 10 of Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and entered the Top 5 of iTunes’ R&B/Soul charts. The buzz started: The New York Times made the comparisons to the iconic male soul singers, USA Today called Stone, a “pitch-perfect powerhouse” and Billboard proclaimed, “The Artist to watch!”

Stone has appeared on Ellen, Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show and recently signed to ATO Records, which brings the album into wide release.
