LARGO - Two muscial performances - one featuring retro music from the 1980s plus a tribute show to Billy Joel and Elton John are coming to the Largo Cultural Center on Feb. 8 and 9.
Howard Jones, 80s icon, presents an acoustic performance on Thursday, Feb. 8, 7:30 p.m., at Largo Cultural Center.
Jones was one of the defining figures of mid-'80s synth-pop and topped the charts with songs, such as “No One Is To Blame,” “What Is Love” and “Everlasting Love.” His music merged the technology-intensive sound of new wave with the cheery optimism of hippies and late-'60s pop.
Tickets are $32 VIP, $29 in advance, $32 day of the show and $27 star series.
The sights and sounds of Billy Joel and Elton John are recreated in Captain Fantastic and 52nd Street on Friday Feb. 9, 8 p.m.
No two musicians have influenced contemporary music more than Sir Elton John and Billy Joel. Their stage-full of hits are performed in this stunning tribute show by Walt Wise, who portrays the piano man in an extravaganza of sight and sound.
As Captain Fantastic, Wise promises to dazzle in typical Elton John style as he plays a 5-foot baby grand filled with lasers, a fog machine, swirling lights, strobes and confetti cannons. These sights are mixed with the spectacular Elton John song list, which includes “Rocketman,” “Crocodile Rock,” “Bennie and the Jets” and “Candle in the Wind.”
As 52nd Street, Walt Wise becomes the incomparable Billy Joel. The stage rocks with the high energy excitement of a Billy Joel performance and his unforgettable hits, including “Big Shot,” “Just the Way You Are,” “Piano Man” and “You May Be Right.”
Tickets are $22 VIP, $19 advance, $22 day of show, $17 Star Series.
