CLEARWATER - Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes return to the Capitol Theatre on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. This will be the band’s first appearance at the Capitol Theatre since their sold-out concert in February 2013.
Southside (so nicknamed because of Johnny’s bent towards the blues sounds of the southside of Chicago) and his band, eventually called the Asbury Jukes, worked on growing their reputation as a dynamic live band through the late 60s and early 70s. “We built a band, a home for lots of musicians, horns and all,” said Johnny. “Sure we called it Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes but it was really just a bunch of guys getting crazy on stage.”
The band delivers the exuberant rhythm and blues feel that is the Jukes’ trademark, the driving sound of the legendary Jukes horn section and a guitar-orientated rock and roll feel – all with the joy of making music that has defined them for more than three decades solidifying a place in rock ‘n’ roll history. Bruce Springsteen, Steve Van Zandi, Garry Tallent and Jon Bon Jovi have all played with the Jukes.
