Bruce Cockburn performs March 1 at Capitol Theatre in Clearwater.
CLEARWATER - Bruce Cockburn performs Friday, March 1, 7:30 p.m., at the Capitol Theatre, 405 Cleveland St., Clearwater.

Cockburn has always been a restless spirit. Over the course of four decades, this celebrated Canadian artist has travelled to the corners of the earth out of humanitarian concerns - often to trouble spots experiencing events that have led to some of his most memorable songs.

Going up against chaos, even if it involves grave risks, can be necessary to get closer to the truth.

Small Source of Comfort, Cockburnís 31st album, is his latest adventurous collection of songs of romance, protest and spiritual discovery. Released in 2011, it is his first studio album in six years. The album, primarily acoustic and rhythmically savvy, is rich in Cockburnís characteristic blend of folk, blues, jazz and rock. As usual, many of the new compositions come from his travels and spending time in places from San Francisco and Brooklyn to the Canadian Forces base in Kandahar, Afghanistan, jotting down his typically detailed observations about the human experience.

For Cockburn, the whole point of writing songs is to share experiences with people. His career has spanned four decades and has produced an acclaimed body of work that has sold more than two million copies worldwide. Cockburn continues to be revered by fans and fellow musicians alike as one of the most important songwriters of his generation.

Reserved tickets are priced at $45 and $39 are available at the Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office located at 1111 McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater, by calling 727-791-7400, and online at www.atthecap.com.
