Florida's third annual Listening Room Festival takes place from April 1-6.
Florida's third annual Listening Room Festival kicks off April 1 with more than 50 performances scheduled throughout the state during the weeklong event.

The festival is a statewide celebration of live music in remarkable spaces – living rooms, offices and the best listening rooms in Florida. Most of the activity takes place in St. Petersburg and Tampa.

“House concerts have been bringing communities and neighborhoods together for decades. What better way to enjoy live music than in a cozy living room with good friends?” said Fran Snyder, the festival’s founder.

Due to changes in demographics and the music industry, house concerts have become one of the most vital pieces of the touring economy for independent acts.

This year, the festival takes its national touring artists into offices around Tampa Bay for 35-minute-long, afternoon concerts that promote wellness and reward employees and clients.

The festival also marks the official launch of

The first local concert is April 1 at the Hideaway Cafe, 1756 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $3 in advance and $10 at the door. The concert features Kira Small, Mieka Pauley and Carli and Julie Kennedy.

On Saturday, April 5, 8 to 10 p.m., Mieka Pauley with special guests Carl Asch performs at the City of Imagination, 2726 54th St., Gulfport. Suggested donation is $10 to $15.

The festival closes with its St. Petersburg showcase at The Palladium, 253 Fifth Ave. N., on Sunday, April 6. Festival hosts, sponsors, charities and fans will gather to hear six featured performers selected from a professional community of 350 worldwide artists.

These featured performers are: Shaun Hopper, an acoustic finger-style performer; Rebecca Loebe, who competed on "The Voice"; Mieka Pauley, Starbucks Emerging Artist of the Year; Carli and Julie Kennedy, a dynamic duo from Victoria, British Columbia; Kira Small, who has toured with Martina McBride, Peter Frampton and Wynona Judd; and The Currys, homegrown folk rock trio.
