Bagpipes with Attitude: The Red Hot Chilli Pipers play at Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg April 12.
ST. PETERSBURG - If you’ve never heard Queen’s “We Will Rock You” or Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water” set to a furious fusion of guitars, drums and bagpipes, you’ll have your chance on Saturday, April 12 at Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg.
Direct from Glasgow, Scotland, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers will bring their unique high energy “Bagrock” to St. Petersburg as the special musical attraction for the Tampa Bay Rowdies when the NASL professional soccer club kicks-off their 2014 season on April 12.
“This is the beginning of a brand new era in Tampa Bay pro sports,” said club principal owner Bill Edwards. “Not only are we working hard to put a winner on the field, but we are also paying much closer attention to the entire fan experience from the time people enter the stadium until the time they leave at the end of an action packed night.”
Among the upgrades to the 2014 Rowdies fan experience is the addition of more than 1,000 new premium seats, including the VIP Midfielder’s Club.
The Red Hot Chilli Pipers exploded in Europe after winning the BBC talent competition “When Will I Be Famous?” in 2007. Since then the band has thrilled audiences all over the globe: New York, Beijing, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, throughout Europe and more, and has twice won Scotland’s Live Act of the Year Award.
Three of the band members are graduates from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Their 2009 album went triple platinum in Scotland, and their follow up album, “Music for the Kilted Generation,” reached Number 2 on the US Amazon Chart.
The Tampa Bay Rowdies open the season against FC Edmonton on Saturday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. Individual and season tickets, including the team’s Midfielder’s Premium Club, are available at 877-ROWDIES and rowdiessoccer.com.
