Summer Fest Live 2008: music, fun for a good cause

LARGO – Summer Fest Live 2008 is Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, at Largo Central Park. Hours are noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
General admission is free; however organizers strongly encourage everyone to bring a food donation to help Religious Community Services continue its mission of feeding the hungry in Pinellas.
Suggested donations include canned meats; canned vegetables; canned fruit and fruit juices; rice and pasta; peanut butter and nuts; and flour, sugar and cornmeal. Please check the expiration dates on the donations to make sure they are not out-of-date.

Premium seating passes are available online at www.summerfestlive.com and www.ticketmaster.com. A two-day pass costs $35; Saturday-only, $15 and Sunday-only, $25.
Enjoy a variety of free music, including Saturday night’s headline artist Tito Puente Jr. and The Neville Brothers on Sunday. In addition, organizers promise great food and plenty of family fun in the Kids Zone where rides and crafts will be featured.

6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. - Lannie Battistini and Hands in Motion – Latin Jazz Quintet
8:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. - Tito Puente Jr.
Puente has been following in his father’s footsteps. Performing his father’s music which is not only Latin Jazz but rhythm and blues as well. He has also appeared on the highly rated ABC-TV daytime drama “One Life to Live” in performance with his big band. His latest CD, “In My Father’s Shoes,” featuring the classic Puente favorites, was spun off into a television special tribute by BET Jazz.

7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. - The Neville Brothers
The Neville’s continue to provoke, entertain and excite audiences around the globe with their New Orleans-style rhythm and blues. They play together; they play apart. Each of the four brothers pursues projects of their own. Aaron has forged a highly successful solo career.
Organizers ask that people attending leave the coolers at home, as well as food, beverages, pets and umbrellas.
The Jollie Trolley will shuttle visitors to and from main parking areas. Limited handicap parking is available with valid tag.
Additional overflow parking is available at the Pinellas County School Board, 301 Fourth St.; Largo Senior High School, 401 Missouri Ave. N.; Largo Central Elementary, 250 First Ave. S.E.; and Largo Middle School, 155 Eighth St. S.E. Overflow parking areas are "park and walk" locations.
SummerFest is presented by RCS, a not-for-profit agency that serves more than 4000 individuals monthly through 62 sub-sites, in partnership with individuals, corporations and other organizations. The purpose is to raise awareness and funds for RCS to address hunger, homelessness, and domestic violence.
RCS is seeking volunteers for beer, wine, soda and water sales; ice delivery; parking; donation tent; and set up and clean up.
