Directed by Tarpon Springs native Constantine Grame, New Century Opera presents the second opera in Wagner's Ring Cycle "The Valkyrie" (or Die Walkure in German). The opera will be sung in English and stars Todd Donovan as Wotan, Edmund Crader as Siegmund, Mark Payne as Hunding, Alexandra Walker as Sieglinde, Patricia Agnew as Fricka, and Michele Smith-Sund as Brunnhilde. The Valkyries are played by Azure Bond, Julia Coulmas, Emily Packard, Nancy Scott, Doreen Summers, Lauren Weber, Deborah Ann Polkinghorn, and Tricia Lynn.
Die Walkure is the second opera in Wagner's mighty ring cycle, following Das Rheingold, and preceding Siegfried and Gotterdammerung.
The opera revolves around the lovers Siegmund and Sieglinde and the god Wotan's wrath and the subsequent death of Siegmund. Composer Richard Wagner incorporated Norse mythology in his operas, that, in this opera, includes the story of the Valkyrie Brünnhilde and her love for the warrior Siegmund and her subsequent punishment for her betrayal of Wotan. Die Walküre, which contains the well known "Ride of the Valkyries," has stunning sets by Jim Demetrius and costumes by Helen Campbell.
