PINELLAS COUNTY – May is a major month for music in the area as venues around Tampa Bay play host to classic rockers, Latin pop stars, jazz artists and R&B chart-toppers.
98 Rockfest is Sunday, May 11, 11 a.m., at Raymond James Stadium, 4201 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. Since the release of his debut album “Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast,” Kid Rock has sold over 22 million albums. It was 1998’s “Devil Without a Cause” which provided the artist with his first mainstream breakthrough, dishing out hits like “Bawitdaba,” “Cowboy” and “Only God Knows Why” and establishing his sound as a unique mix of Southern rock, blues, country and hip-hop.
Other bands scheduled to perform include 3 Doors Down, Serj Tankian, Shinedown, Filter, Ashes Divide, Theory of a Deadman, Five Finger Death Punch, Saving Abel and Skratch-n-Sniff.

Tickets range from $15 to $115.
With classic rock favorites like “Take the Money and Run,” “Rockin’ Me,” “Jet Airliner,” “The Joker,” “Livin’ in the USA” and the instantly recognizable “Fly Like An Eagle,” Miller is a cornerstone of the industry. The blues-rocker grew up in a home frequented by musicians such as Charles Mingus, Les Paul and T-Bone Walker. Miller formed his first band at age 12 with his friend, Box Scaggs.
An indication of the artist’s ongoing influence in the industry, the Steve Miller Band’s songs have been covered by a diverse group of artists such as Seal, k.d. lang, Run-D.M.C., Deftones and Smashing Pumpkins.

Adrian Belew performs on Friday, May 30 at Skipper’s Smokehouse. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
Belew is best known for his work with Frank Zappa, David Bowie and, particularly, King Crimson. The American guitarist and vocalist also has a long list of solo efforts to his credit, including 1990’s “Young Lions” which spawned the modern rock hit single “Pretty Pink Rose.”
Between 2005 and 2006, Belew recorded and released a series of three albums, “Side One,” “Side Two” and “Side Three.” Pleasingly eclectic and wonderfully weird, each recording is an exercise in restraint containing concise, meticulously polished gems fusing the best elements of prog-rock, funk, pop and electronica. Some of the material could easily be mistaken for King Crimson’s post-1980 canon. In 2007, Belew released “Side Four,” a live set featuring the Adrian Belew Power Trio.
