88.5 WMNF presents Led Zeppelin tribute on May 26
Article published on Tuesday, May 15, 2007
TAMPA - 88.5 WMNF presents Dazed and Confused: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin on Saturday, May 26, 4 p.m. to midnight, at Skipper's Smokehouse.

More than 16 bands and performers are scheduled to take the stage at the event to commemorate Led Zeppelin's final appearance in Tampa on June 3, 1977. Doors open at 4 p.m.; the show begins at 5 p.m. Each band will play three to four songs originally recorded by Led Zeppelin.

Skipper's Smokehouse is at 910 Skipper Road in Tampa.

It’s been almost 30 years since Led Zeppelin canceled a show in the pouring rain at the old Tampa Stadium causing a riot to ensue and a moratorium on concerts there for years to come. Led Zeppelin would never play Tampa again, according to organizers of the show.

Led Zeppelin may have been the definitive heavy metal band, but it was their interpretation of the blues, world music, British folk, and a variety of other genres that made their sound unique.  WMNF is bringing the essence of the Led Zeppelin sound in the form of more than 15 bands that embody all that Led Zeppelin was about, including blues bands, folk musicians, world beat, pop, rock and more.

The show will start out with up and coming musicians performing at an open mic, which is open to bands as well as singers and songwriters. The event also will include an air guitar contest for Jimmy Page wanna-be’s from 5 to 7 p.m. The grand prize is a six month pass to all WMNF concerts and events.

The evening will be topped off as local guitar gods trade licks on Zep classics perhaps even the infamous Stairway to Heaven.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the show. Tickets are available by calling 813-238-8001. Tickets and a full list of performers also are available online at
