TAMPA - Three-time Grammy Award singer Jon Secada and the Florida Orchestra preforms on Thursday, May 31, 8 p.m., at the Ford Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds.
Performing with his own band as well as with the orchestra, Secada will sing a variety of his hits, including “Angel,” “Just Another Day,” “Window to My Heart,” “Same Dream,” and “Do You Believe in Us.” Gary Anderson will conduct for TFO.
Sponsored by Bright House Networks, this is the final concert of the orchestra’s inaugural Festival de Musica Latina, which has also included trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and The Romeros guitar quartet.
In the late 1980s, Cuban-born Secada met Gloria and Emilio Estefan Jr., and was eventually invited to join the band as a background singer. Recognizing his many talents, he was encouraged to write music for the band, including some of Gloria Estefan's best ballads.
Among other tunes, Secada co-wrote and sang background on “Coming Out of the Dark,” Estefan's No. 1 hit from her 1991 album Into the Light. During her "Coming Out of the Dark" tour, Secada was given the opportunity to take center stage as a soloist. As they say, the rest is history.
Besides launching his solo career as a singer, Secada went on to collaborate with several Latin artists, including Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin and Arturo Sandoval. In addition to his three Grammy Awards, Secada has garnered several top slots in the pop chart ratings for songs from albums such as the triple-platinum debut Jon Secada and the 1994 release Heart, Soul and Voice. In total, Secada has amassed a career sales total of more than 20 million albums worldwide.
Tickets are $25 and $40; VIP seating is $75, which includes food and beverages. Guests can purchase tickets at the Ford Amphitheatre box office (Orient Road entrance) as well as through all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 813-287-8844 or 727-848-3137 and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
Ford Amphitheatre Box Office hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends for on-sales and day-of-show only. The concert will take place rain or shine.
The orchestra’s Festival de Music Latina is sponsored in part by the Arts Council of Hillsborough County and the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Tampa Bay-based firm of Cash Management Solutions Inc.
