ST. PETERSBURG – Blowfish Bar & Grill officially opened its doors May 10 at 8305 Bay Pines Blvd. – only days after patrons of the new restaurant were pleasantly surprised by an unexpected performance.
Earlier in the week, Darius Rucker jumped on stage and began to perform. Rucker sang some of his new songs from his latest solo albums mixed with a few Hootie & the Blowfish favorites. Blowfish Bar & Grill is owned by one of Rucker’s band mate’s from Hootie & the Blowfish.
“I am honored that Darius made time in his busy tour schedule to stop and play a few songs here at Blowfish,” said Dean Felber in a press release. “He’s a dear friend and this means the world to me to open my restaurant with him here.”
“I am so happy for Dean and glad I could be here for the opening week,” said Rucker. “It was a great time. I’ll be back.”
The May 10 grand opening event featured live music, too, with performances by both Felber and Mark Bryan of Hootie & the Blowfish. Blowfish Bar & Grill plans nightly live music from some of the country’s most accomplished musicians.
Felber is a founding member of the band Hootie & the Blowfish and has recently moved to St. Petersburg from Charleston, S.C. to open Blowfish Bar & Grill with his longtime friend, Mike Vitale. Vitale is a successful nightclub owner in Charleston.
