CLEARWATER - Acoustic guitarist Shaun Hopper returns to the Capitol Theatre Saturday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m.
Known for his “fingerstyle” guitar playing, Hopper is at first glance an unassuming presence, a true southern gentleman whose humility stands in stark contrast to the prodigious talents he unveils on stage. An unparalleled master of the fretboard, Hopper merges complex melodies, harmonies and bass lines along with-one-of-a-kind mix of percussive elements captivating everyone within earshot creating the sound of a full band with just ONE guitar and his TWO hands.
His original compositions and arrangements of well-loved pop tunes are infused with cutting-edge techniques resulting in a signature style which crosses over a full range of musical genres like classical, jazz, Irish/Celtic, folk, pop, funk, blues and flamenco.
Subsequent years of honing his craft led Hopper to the Winfield National Fingerpicking Championship where he won Best Instrumental song, second place in The Eddie's Attic bi-annual songwriting shootout.
He has also shared the stage and opened for B.B. King, Tim Reynolds (Dave Matthews Band), Robert Randolph, Taj Mahal, Switchfoot, G. Love and has even had the opportunity to play personally for Stevie Wonder."
