July lineup: Everything from Americana Fest to Crüe Fest

PINELLAS COUNTY – The July concert lineup features a mixed bag of up-and-coming artists, legendary headliners and summer music festivals.
The 2008 Vans Warped Tour will roll into town on Friday, July 11, 11 a.m., at Vinoy Park on the waterfront in downtown St. Petersburg.
A touring music and extreme sports festival, the Warped Tour dates back to 1995 and has developed a reputation for delivering as many as 100 bands a show scattered over ten stages.
Bands like Norma Jean, a Christian metalcore band from Georgia; Mayday Parade, emo rockers from Tallahassee, Fla.; and The HorrorPops, a Danish psychobilly punk outfit, have signed for the entire tour. Other bands scheduled to perform include A Day to Remember, Against Me!, The Aggrolites, Anberlin, Angels and Airwaves, The Briggs, Every Time I Die, Reel Big Fish and Pierce the Veil.

WMNF will present its third annual Americana Fest on Saturday, July 19, 5 p.m., at Skipper’s Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, Tampa.
Texas artist Hayes Carll, whose “Lost Highway” release has topped the Americana charts for several weeks, will be one of the big draws at this year’s concert. The event also will feature acts such as Mojo Gurus, Rebekah Pulley and the Reluctant Prophets, Will Quinlain and the Diviners, Ronny Elliott and Barkin’ Barney and the Tall Boys.

Jannus Landing Courtyard
New Orleans based Cowboy Mouth hit the stage on Thursday, July 24, 7 p.m., at Jannus Landing.
For more than 15 years, the band has embraced, embodied, preached and shouted the joys of their hometown, sharing a slice of Mardi Gras heaven with fans around the world. The band’s most recent album, “Voodoo Shoppe,” is in part a tribute to city of New Orleans in the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Tickets are $14.99 in advance, $18 at the door.

Drummer extraordinaire, Academy Award-winning musician Ringo Starr will perform on Wednesday, July 2, 8 p.m., at Ruth Eckerd Hall.
Since the breakup of the Beatles, Starr has pursued a successful solo career. The artist brings to the hall his All Starr Band, including Billy Squier, Gary Wright, Edgar Winter, Hamish Stuart, Greg Bissonette and Colin Hay. Together, these well-known rock musicians will offer an eclectic and interesting variety of music.

Skipper’s Smokehouse
Skipper’s will host a benefit for Danny Roberts on Sunday, July 13, 5 p.m. Roberts played with Tom Petty in the band Mudcrutch in the early 1970s. He’s also performed with Derek Trucks, Billy Joe Royal and Phil Seymour. Roberts suffered serious injuries in a recent car accident and is facing an avalanche of medical bills. Proceeds from the $10 admission will assist in paying off his debt.
Performing at the concert will be the Johnny G. Lyon Band, Take Five, Charlie Souza and Damon Fowler.

Tampa Theatre
Shelby Lynne will perform on Thursday, July 17, 8 p.m., at Tampa Theatre as part of the Ruth Eckerd Hall On The Road series.
Lynne, an American country music singer, songwriter and actress, won a Grammy Award in 2001 for Best New Artist, on the strength of the album “I Am Shelby Lynne,” which included the hit single, “Gotta Get Back.” Her 2001 follow-up album, “Love, Shelby” was a moderate commercial success and in 2003, Lynne released the critically-acclaimed “Identity Crisis.”
Tickets range from $31 to $40.50.
