July concert lineup Aerosmith, Boz Scaggs and Dream Theater

In addition to performances by Aerosmith and ZZ Top as well as Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonald in July, festival-goers will find a variety of alternative acts – from punk and ska to reggae and hip-hop – at the 2009 Vans Warped Tour, set for Sunday, July 26, noon, at Vinoy Park, St. Petersburg.
For the 15th year, Vans Shoes will sponsor the summer tour. This year, the festival will feature one main stage with bands scheduled to play 40 minutes each. Some of the headliners playing the St.
Petersburg date include:
• 3OH!3 – An American electronic music outfit hailing from Boulder, Colo., known best for the Platinum-certified single “Don’t Trust Me”
from the band’s debut album “Want.”
• Bad Religion – An American punk rock band dating back to 1980, the band has released 14 studio albums, including 1988’s “Suffer,” considered by some critics as one of the most important punk albums of all time.
• Less Than Jake – A ska punk band from Gainesville with seven studio albums, including 2008’s “GNV FLA” which debuted at No. 9 on the Top Independent Albums chart.
• Underoath – An American metalcore band based in Tampa whose single “Writing on the Walls” from the band’s “Define the Great Line” album was nominated for the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video.
Dozens of other bands are scheduled to perform, such as Alana Grace, All Time Low, Anti-Flag, Bouncing Souls, Breathe Carolina, Chiodos, Madina Lake, Meg and Dia and The Devil Wears Prada.

Ruth Eckerd Hall
Progressive Nation Tour 2009 will arrive on Sunday, July 26, 7 p.m., at Ruth Eckerd Hall.
The show’s headliner, Dream Theater, is known for an unpredictable, improvised and often humor-laced concert style. Also on the tour is Zappa Plays Zappa, led by Dweezil Zappa, son of Frank; Pain of Salvation, a Swedish progressive metal band with a sound characterized by powerful, accentuated guitar work, broad vocals and polyrhythmic experimentation; and Beardfish, also a progressive rock band from Sweden known for their progressive rock style that was popular in the 1970s. Tickets start at $45.50.

WMNF will present its fourth annual Americana Fest on Saturday, July 11, 3 p.m., at Skipper’s Smokehouse.
Featured artists will include Blue Mountain, Ted Lukas & the Misled, Will Quinlan & the Diviners, Have Gun Will Travel, Thomas Wynn & the Believers, Nervous Turkey, Black Finger, Mike Dunn & the Kings of New England, Matt Butcher, Nine Volts and Roppongi’s Ace.
