Journey, Heart, Cheap Trick to rock the Amphitheatre
Article published on Monday, July 21, 2008 |
TAMPA - Three legendary rock bands are teaming up for what is sure to be the tour of the summer. Journey, Heart and Cheap Trick are heading out on the concert trail, including a stop at the Ford Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Wednesday, July 30, 7:30 p.m.
Journey’s legacy has spanned more than 30 years with 18 U.S. releases and more than 75,000,000 in album sales. Their music is artful, intense, melodic rock played with passion and superb musicianship.
Journey - Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) and new lead singer Arnel Pineda — is hitting the road to promote Revelation, the highly anticipated three-disc CD-DVD package released on June 3. The new album offers a lasting testament to Journey’s legacy, and a striking glimpse of their brilliant future, a fine-tuned offering that sounds every bit like a band hitting their stride.
With more than 30 million albums sold and such hit singles as "Crazy on You," "Magic Man," "Barracuda," "Straight On" "Dog & Butterfly," "Never," "These Dreams," "Nothin' At All" and "Alone," the band Heart, led by Ann and Nancy Wilson, is one of the most successful and beloved acts in rock music history. Additionally the group will be recording a new studio album of original material in 2008, their first since 2004's Jupiter's Darling.
With more than three decades of creating classic rock'n'roll behind them, Ann and Nancy Wilson and Heart show no signs of slowing down, continuing to add to their considerable musical legacy with an artistic energy that remains as strong as when they started out.
Since the 70s, Cheap Trick has been blending elements of pop, punk and even metal in a way that is instantly catchy and recognizable. With timeless classics such as "I Want You to Want Me," "Surrender," “Dream Police” and "The Flame," Cheap Trick is a musical institution. Anyone familiar with Comedy Central's The Colbert Report will note that they wrote and performed the theme song.
With more than 5,000 performances, 20 million records sold, 29 movie soundtracks and 40 gold and platinum recording awards, the band was honored by the Chicago Chapter of NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) for their contributions to the music industry.
Reserve seat tickets are $125, $85, $59.50 and $39.50; festival lawn tickets are $25. Tickets are available at the Ford Amphitheatre Box Office, online at www.livenation.com, and all Ticketmaster locations. To charge by phone, call Ticketmaster at 727-898-2100 or 813-287-8844.
