Rock ’n’ Blues Hippiefest returns to REH; Mahaffey hosts Memphis Music Fest

Tampa Bay area venues will welcome a diverse selection of musical artists in the coming weeks.

Under The Sun, the annual festival tour celebrating the best of alternative pop rock ‘n’ roll, will return for another summer run Sunday, Aug. 3, 7 p.m., at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater. Tickets start at $49.50. Call 791-7400 or visit www.rutheckerdhall.com.

The concert will feature performances by Blues Traveler, Sugar Ray, Uncle Kracker and Smash Mouth. 2013’s inaugural Under The Sun tour was among last year’s most popular and acclaimed events, earning ecstatic media attention with each stop along the way.

The Memphis Music Fest will be Friday, Aug. 8, 8 p.m., at The Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S., St. Petersburg. Tickets start at $39. Call 892-5767 or visit www.themahaffey.com.

The concert will feature modern music-makers who brought “soul” into the mainstream, including soul and blues men Booker T. Jones, The Bar-Kays and William Bell.

Rock and blues fans are certainly in for a tasty musical treat this summer as the popular Rock ’n’ Blues Hippiefest tour returns to the Tampa Bay area with a special tribute to Johnny Winter Saturday, Aug. 16, 7 p.m., at Ruth Eckerd Hall. This year’s line-up features the Edgar Winter Band and Savoy Brown’s Kim Simmonds, along with special guests Vanilla Fudge and Peter Rivera, formerly of Rare Earth.

Headlined by the Grammy Award-winning Anthony Hamilton, the Tampa Urban Music Fest will be Saturday, Aug. 23, 8 p.m., at The USF Sun Dome, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa. Tickets start at $35. Call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or visit www.sundomearena.com.

Accompanying Hamilton at this can’t-miss music event is Lyfe Jennings, Mali Music and Jazmine Sullivan. Comedian Kevin “Damn Fool” Simpson will host this night full of urban music’s most beloved performers.

98Rock’s Uproar Festival is set for Saturday, Aug. 30, 1:30 p.m., at the Mid Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre, at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4802 U.S. 301 N., Tampa. Tickets start at $32.80. Call 813-740-2446 or visit www.livenation.com.
