The Hot Sun Quartet
ST. PETERSBURG - Jazz lovers rejoice. The Palladium Theater features two great shows sure to please in the month of August and beyond.

Palladium Side Door Jazz Series presents The Hot Sun Quartet (Quarteto Sol Caliente) on Thursday, Aug. 6, 7:30 p.m

The Hot Sun Quartet (Quarteto Sol Caliente) is a world jazz ensemble formed in 2000 and consists of two flamenco guitars, congas and various percussion, and a stand-up bass. Music ranges from Swing and Latin Jazz to Brazilian Samba, Salsa and Flamenco.

Tickets are $15.

Palladium Side Door Jazz Series presents NYC Saxophonist Harry Allen, with the Nate Najar Trio on Friday, Aug. 21, 7:30 p.m.

New York based saxophonist Harry Allen has more than thirty recordings to his name. Allen has performed at jazz festivals and clubs worldwide, frequently touring the United States, Europe and Asia.

He has performed with Rosemary Clooney, Ray Brown, Hank Jones, Frank Wess, Flip Phillips, Scott Hamilton, Harry 'Sweets' Edison, Kenny Burrell, Herb Ellis, John Pizzarelli, Bucky Pizzarelli, Gus Johnson, Jeff Hamilton, Terry Gibbs and Warren Vache. He has recorded with Tony Bennett, Johnny Mandel, Ray Brown, Tommy Flanagan, James Taylor, Sheryl Crow and Kenny Barron.

Tickets are $20.

Looking ahead

Palladium Side Door Jazz Series presents The Jazz Ambiance Quartet on Thursday, Sept. 10, 7:30 p.m.

Guitarist Dave Lynch leads an all-start quartet in a tribute to “Great American Songwriters” including Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein, Johnny Mercer, George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael and Duke Ellington.

Tickets are $15.

Palladium Side Door Special Series presents: Julie Black on Friday, Sept. 11, 8 p.m.

Known as the "Angel for Blues," Julie Black is one of the most exciting new female performers in the Blues & Jazz genres. She's a dynamic vocalist, with an exciting new release climbing the blues charts. She is a prolific songwriter who finds inspiration everywhere. Band members include; Michael Johnn, keys; Dave Eichenberger, guitar and vocals; Mike LaSala, drums; and "Father Bill" Spicuglia, bass. Live shows are creative, passionate and powerful, drawing big crowds eager to feel the music. Black and her band are breathing fresh air into the music scene, reviving listeners with a sound that transcends time and genre.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

Palladium Side Door Special Series presents The Damon Fowler Group on Saturday, Sept. 19, 8 p.m.

Brandon-born Fowler is holding down top spots on the blues charts nationally and recently signed with Blind Pig Records. Now touring nationally and appearing with such artists as Johnny Winter, BB King, Derek Trucks and Buddy Guy, don’t miss this chance to see a rising star in an intimate setting.

His playing, writing, and vocal ability has brought him many accolades. His latest include Creative Loafing magazines "Best Guitarist, Best Lap-Steel player, Best Do-Bro player and Best Slide player," all rolled into one tight package. Fowler has been touring the country since November.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
