TAMPA – For the first time ever, Linkin Park will play with Thirty Seconds to Mars and special guest AFI on a 25-city tour this summer, kicking off Friday, Aug. 8, in West Palm Beach.
The second show on the Carnivores Tour will bring the bands to the Tampa Bay area, with a show set for Saturday, Aug. 9, 6:30 p.m., at George M. Steinbrenner Field, 3802 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa,
This will be the first concert presented at Steinbrenner Field since 1996, which at the time was called Legends Field.
“It has been close to 19 years since we have held a concert at Steinbrenner Field so we wanted to kick things off with one of the hottest rock concerts touring this summer,” said Howard Grosswirth in a press release. Grosswirth is vice president of marketing for the New York Yankees. “We are extremely excited about reintroducing concert goers to this world-class venue, the momentum behind the Carnivores Tour and our future plans of hosting more concerts at Steinbrenner Field.”
EVENT Live has teamed up with George M. Steinbrenner Field and Sailaway Productions to become the official mobile app as well as provide marketing and promotional support for the Tampa stop of the Carnivores Tour.
“We could not be more excited to join forces with the mega brands behind this tour to help reintroduce Steinbrenner Field to the concert world while enhancing the overall concert experience with the EVENT Live app,” said Ryan Waier, CEO of EVENT Live.
The Carnivores Tour, sponsored in-part by Infinity and promoted by Live Nation, will showcase three multi-platinum bands in what organizers are calling “an unforgettable night of music featuring some of the biggest rock and alternative radio hits from the past decade.”
In a post on the tour’s official Facebook page, co-lead singer of Linkin Park Mike Shinoda explained the unusual name of the tour.
"Carnivores is a metaphor that is meant to convey an appetite for something visceral and substantive,” Shinoda said. “I feel that’s exactly the hunger this tour will feed."
"We are so excited to join our friends on this epic journey,” said Jared Leto of Thirty Seconds to Mars in the press release. “It's going to be the adventure of a lifetime."
