TAMPA - VH1 and Universal Orlando Resort have partnered to present a VH1 Totally Awesome Weekend, September 15 to 17, with live concerts from 80s legends the Go-Gos and Rick Springfield, and an exclusive sneak screening of VH1’s brand new original movie “Totally Awesome.” Directed by “Chappelle’s Show” co-creator Neal Brennan, “Totally Awesome” lampoons some of the most enduring and endearing conventions of famous 80s movies.

The weekend kicks-off at the Hard Rock Hotel, as they celebrate their fifth birthday, with a special Velvet Sessions featuring the most popular all-female band from the 80s punk and new wave explosion – The Go-Go’s.

Celebrating 25 years since the release of their debut album, “Beauty and the Beat,” The Go-Go’s will bring their unmistakable and energetic sound to Hard Rock Hotel on Friday, Sept. 15.

The all 80s weekend continues on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Universal Studios with a live rock concert featuring the multi-platinum, 80’s legend Rick Springfield. The Grammy-award-winning singer will bring guests back to their favorite decade with hits like “Jessie’s Girl,” “I’ve Done Everything For You” and “Don’t Talk to Strangers.”

In addition, Saturday’s totally tubular fun includes an exclusive sneak screening of VH1’s new made-for-TV film “Totally Awesome” — a hysterical spoof of 80’s teen movies starring Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan.

On Sunday, Sept. 17, it’s back to the Hard Rock Hotel for the culmination of their fifth birthday bash as the hotel opens its uber cool pool deck for the first time ever to the public for a ‘Battle of the Bands.’

Five Central Florida bands will battle it out to become Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando’s house band for the upcoming year, while concert goers enjoy poolside activities, a special hangover tent and contests for the best belly flop, best female and male hot body and best tattoo.

Friday night’s Velvet Sessions tickets are $50 and include free specialty cocktails from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., finger foods, the Go-Go’s live in concert and admission to Sunday’s ‘Battle of the Bands.’ Tickets are available by calling 407-503-2402.

Saturday, Sept. 16’s Rick Springfield Concert and sneak screening of “Totally Awesome” is included with Universal Studios theme park admission (including Annual Passes). Guests can also purchase a special 'Totally Awesome' ticket (valid after 5 p.m.) for $19.80 plus tax at www.universalorlando.com or the Universal Studios front gate.

NOTE: This ticket is valid for Saturday, Sept. 16 admission to Universal Studios only.

Admission to the Hard Rock Hotel’s ‘Battle of the Bands’ is $5 (admission is included with the purchase of Velvet Sessions tickets) and will go to benefit VH1’s Save the Music Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring instrumental music education in America’s public schools.
