Pet Shop Boys makes The Mahaffey Theater its second stop on its United States tour Friday, Sept. 13, 8 p.m.
ST. PETERSBURG - Pet Shop Boys, listed as the most successful duo in UK music history by The Guinness Book of Records, will make The Mahaffey Theater its second stop on its United States tour Friday, Sept. 13, 8 p.m.
The concert comes on the heels of the highly anticipated Electric, PSB’s 12th studio album, released in mid-July and is presented by The Bill Edwards Foundation for the Arts.
The electronic dance music duo consisting of Neil Tennant on vocals, keyboards and guitar, and Chris Lowe on keyboards have sold more than 50 million records worldwide. The three-time Brit Award winners and six-time Grammy nominees have achieved 42 Top 30 singles and 22 Top 10 hits in the UK Singles Chart including four number ones: “West End Girls,” “It’s a Sin,” “Always on My Mind” and “Heart.”
Pet Shop Boys received an award for Outstanding Contribution to Music at the 2009 BRIT Awards.
Electric was released July 15 on Pet Shop Boys’ own label x2 (via Kobalt Label Services) and features eight new songs plus a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “The Last to Die.”
The album was recorded between Berlin, London and Los Angeles and produced by Stuart Price, who said they used “various techniques between old school synth and drum machine programming and new school computer mangling.”
“Electric is very much set on the dance floor,” said Neil Tennant. “Our latest album often evolves as a response to our previous album and, whereas Elysium had a reflective mood, Electric is pretty banging!”
Tickets for Pet Shop Boys are $29.50, $39.50, $49.50, $55.50 and $99.50 and available online at TheMahaffey.com, charge by phone at 727-893-7832 or in person at The Mahaffey Theater Box Office. The Mahaffey Box Office is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
