St. Petersburg-based Trop Rock Junkies have been nominated for Band of the Year.
ST. PETERSBURG – The St. Petersburg-based band Trop Rock Junkies were recently nominated by the Trop Rock Music Association for the 2016 Band of the Year.
The Trop Rock Music Association is a national organization representing the music genre Trop Rock. Trop Rock – short for tropical themed rock – is a music genre that is part rock, part country and other styles of music with lyrics that exemplify the tropical/island lifestyle. It has become increasingly popular with contributions from artists like the Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson and, of course, Jimmy Buffett. The organization is made up of artists, fans, venues and radio stations that play this type of music. Winners are determined by the voting membership. The organization holds their annual awards show each year in Key West and draw artists and fans from all over the country.
The five-piece band Trop Rock Junkies have been around since 2010 and have played music festivals and events from the Midwest to Key West, including Pardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana; Stars Fell On Alabama, Orange Beach, Alabama; Parrot Head Rendezvous, Panama City Beach; Fin Fest, Columbia, South Carolina; Music On The Bay, Tampa; and Pirates of the High Seas Festival, Panama City Beach.
The band has received many other award nominations including winning the 2014 Songwriter of the Year award which went to TRJ front man Steve Tolliver. They have a growing following nationwide among the devoted fans of this music genre.
The band performs at Tampa Bay area venues such as Sam’s Beach Bar in Hudson, Sea Hags on St. Pete Beach, The Getaway in St. Petersburg and Whiskey Joe’s in Tampa.
