CLEARWATER - Jamie Cullum brings his special brand of music to Ruth Eckerd Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 and $50 for limited VIP seating.
According to Cullum's biography at www.JamieCullum.com, the British singer, songwriter and pianist enjoys spreading his music and his energy around the world.
Grammy nominee Cullum, 26, also enjoys the success of his two recent albums "Catching Tales" released in 2005 and "Twentysomething," which sold more than two million copies worldwide.
Cullum has an eclectic musical background, according to his biography.
"I listen to a lot of very percussive music; I used to always drum on my desk at school. I've always listened to a lot of dance music, and I love hip-hop," he said.
Cullum's early career included working as a singer and pianist "anywhere he could get a gig: on cruise ships, in pubs, even wedding receptions."
Universal Classics and Jazz discovered him in 2003, after which he recorded "Twentysomething."
"With 'Catching Tales,' Jamie Cullum continues to redefine where the parameters of pop and jazz - indeed, all musical genres - are drawn," his biography states.
"At first I didn't think certain songs had a place in what I was doing with jazz, but I've realized that everything does, and that reaffirms my belief that jazz is the greatest platform to do whatever you want," Cullum said. "People ask why I play jazz. It's because you can take it to so many different places. You can embrace dance music, rock, pop music, classical, funk, everything..."
Tickets to the Oct. 10 show are available at the Ruth Eckerd Hall ticket office as well as at www.rutheckerdhall.com. Call 791-7400 Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
