JJ Grey & Mofro kicks off a new tour Sept. 24 at The Ritz in Tampa.
A busy weekend of music is coming to Tampa Bay, starting on Thursday, Sept. 24, when JJ Grey & Mofro heads to The Ritz, 1503 E. Seventh Ave. in Tampa.

Born and raised just outside of Jacksonville, Grey comes from a long tradition of Southern musical storytellers and like the best of the great southern writers he fills his songs with details that are at once vivid and personal, political and universal.

His most recent album, “Orange Blossoms” on Alligator Records, was recorded in north Florida and boasts some of Grey’s most profound and moving music to date. The band also is preparing for its first vinyl-only release, “The Choice Cuts,” due Nov. 3.

“The Choice Cuts” will feature eight fan favorites as well as a previously unreleased cover of Van Morrison’s “Tupelo Honey.”

Grey will be joined at The Ritz by country rock outlaw Shooter Jennings and special guest Earl Greyhound.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $22 the day of the show. Call 813-247-2555 or visit www.ritzybor.com.
