SEMINOLE – Get ready to boogie as Seminole’s annual Music in the Park series continues on Oct. 3, 7 p.m., at Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road.
Featured entertainment is Gumbo Boogie, known for an innovative spin on piano-driven New Orleans rhythm and blues and accordion-powered Zydeco. Gumbo Boogie has been playing gigs throughout Florida for more than a decade.
Featuring Cajun-flavored music, the band has opened for performers such as Marcia Ball, Steve Riley, Bill Wharton and The Subdudes.
Gumbo Boogie band members include Ryan Langley on accordion, piano, trumpet and vocals; Steve Wigginton on bass guitar, bass fiddle and vocals; Chaz Trippy on drums, percussion and vocals; and Steve Vandergriff on guitar, mandolin and vocals.
Music in the Park schedule
- Oct. 10 – Supernatural
The Santana tribute band Supernatural delivers a true harmonious history lesson, offering a career retrospective of guitar wizard Carlos Santana.
In a recent interview, Steve Eiseman explained how Supernatural was born.
“I conceptualized the band years ago after listening to a live two-album set called ‘Moonflower,’” Eiseman said. “The music had always moved and inspired me in the past but the live performance really just put an energetic, live, rock urgency to the music that really was spiritual for me.” In 1999, Eiseman placed ads in the classified sections of local music publications seeking to populate the band.
Band members include El Niño Garcia on congas, Dave Mueller on guitar, Peter Kane on keyboards and vocals, Michael “Angus” McEachern on bass and vocals, Todd Plant on vocals and Asoka Compton on timbales. Eiseman plays drums and sings.
According to Eiseman, Supernatural doesn’t favor any one artistic period in Santana’s long career, preferring to cover a variety of music from the artist’s vast catalogue of material.
- Oct. 17 – The Barracudas
The Barracudas have been together for 17 years and are considered one of the state’s premier bands for vintage sounds of the ’60s and early ’70s. The Barracudas have played for audiences across the state and also huge crowds in Cincinnati, Albuquerque and Nashville.
Band members include Bob Carter on vocals and guitar; Scott Struthers on vocals, keyboard and guitar; Maurice Brazil on vocals and bass; and Pat Ranieri on drums.
Over the years, the band has opened for top name performers such as The Beach Boys, The Turtles, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Steppenwolf, Ray Charles and Billy Preston.
