Meat Loaf has had a successful music career, yielding a number of the largest-selling albums of all time and breaking several records for chart duration. Bat Of Out Hell (Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, performed by Meat Loaf & Ellen Foley), his debut album, took four years to make. More than 37 million copies of it have sold and, after 30 years, with approximately 200,000 copies selling annually.
Remaining on the charts for more than 9 years, each of the seven tracks on the album eventually charted as a hit single. In 1992, came the release of Bat out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, and the single "I’d Do Anything for Love" (But I Won’t Do That), the album reached No. 1 in 28 countries and sold more than 15 million copies.
Meat Loaf won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo in 1994 for "I’d Do Anything For Love."
Meat Loaf has also appeared in more than 50 movies or television shows sometimes as himself, or as characters resembling his stage persona. His most notable roles include Eddie in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," and Robert “Bob” Paulson in "Fight Club."
Meat Loaf supports various charities, and in June he participated in a soccer penalty shoot-out competition on behalf of two U.K. cancer charities. He auctioned shots to the 100 highest bidders and then took his place between the goal posts.
