Enjoy an evening with Dolly Parton at Ruth Eckerd Hall
Article published on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008
CLEARWATER – The most honored female country performer of all time, Dolly Parton, returns to Ruth Eckerd Hall on Monday, Oct. 20, at 8 p.m. as part as part of the 2008-2009 Backwoods Barbie World Tour.

Tickets priced at $150, $95 and $65 and are available at the Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office located at 1111 McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater; by calling 727-791-7400 or online at www.rutheckerdhall.com. The Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and one hour prior to show time. Group seating is available by calling 727-712-2717.

Dolly’s music success gives new meaning to the word “superstar.” Her prolific songwriting includes hits such as "I will Always Love You," which topped the charts in 1974 and 1982, making Dolly the first to have a No. 1 hit twice with the same song. Whitney Houston brought this song back in 1992 in The Bodyguard, bringing it to the top of the charts for a third time.

This Country Music Hall of Fame inductee has garnered seven Grammy Awards, five Academy of Country Music Awards, 10 CMA’s and is only one of five female artists to win the CMA’s Entertainer of the Year Award. She has achieved 25 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards, 25 number-one singles (a record for a female performer) and 41 top-10 albums (more than anyone else). In 2006 she was honored by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for her lifetime of contributions to the arts.

Recently, Dolly told Los Angeles radio listeners that "9 to 5," the new musical for which she has penned songs, will open on Broadway in spring 2009. The musical being shepherded by producer Robert Greenblatt is based on the 1980 film comedy about secretaries. Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda starred in the hit picture that also spawned a TV series.

For all her success, she has not forgotten her roots. In 1988 she created the Dollywood Foundation to inspire children in her home community to dream more, learn more, do more and care more.
