Dashboard Confessional to rock the Forum
Article published on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006
TAMPA - The Intimate Blue Line Theatre at the St. Pete Times Forum will open its doors once again for Dashboard Confessional on Thursday, NoV. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

The alternative rock outfit Dashboard Confessional was started in 1999 led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Chris Carrabba from Boca Raton. The name Dashboard Confessional is derived from one of his songs, "The Sharp Hint of New Tears."

Dashboard Confessional shows are known for their intimate atmosphere and enthusiastic participation from the crowds. Carrabba encourages the audience to sing large portions of the songs, stepping back from the microphone and letting the crowd's voices be heard instead of his. Carrabba has said that this fosters a bond between concert-goers and helps him and the audience connect on an emotional level, making all his shows intimate, personal experiences.

In 2002 Dashboard garnered a much-coveted Moonman for MTV2 Artist of the Year. More importantly, it opened up a wider audience for Carrabba. MTV commissioned an Unplugged special, and later released it as a live album. The resulting CD-DVD, titled simply MTV Unplugged V2.0, went platinum.

"I always feel like I'm on a chase, me and my audience," said Carrabba. "There are no boundaries between us. Any show I do, big or small, just playing some random place, it always makes me really feel alive."

Also apprearing on Nov. 9 is Brand New. The group Brand New is formed by its for punk-pop members: Brian Lane - drums; Garret Tierney - bass; Jesse Lacey - guitar and lead singer, Vincent Accardi - guitar and vocals.

Originally it had just been Lacey and Lane messing around with songs in a basement in New York, but once they realized they were on to something, they recruited their friends Tierney and Accardi and the band took off, recording a demo, and later split CDs "Your Favorite Weapon" and recently "Deja Entendu."

While listening to CD's is never a bad thing, fans don't truly get the "Brand New" experience unless they see them live in concert. With one of the best live shows around, Brand New has gained a large fan base and their popularity continues to grow.

The Intimate Blue Line Theatre at the St. Pete Times Forum is a 5,000 seat configuration that offers an up-close and personal concert setting that creates a unique blend of intimacy and spaciousness, with wonderful sightlines and close views of the stage. The stage is set facing the south end of the arena, which is a reversed set to typical concert settings at the St. Pete Times Forum. This setting allows the stage to face the XO Club, the premier seating area at the St. Pete Times Forum.

Tickets are $29.75 and available at all Ticketmaster outlets. To tickets by phone, call Ticketmaster at 813-287-8844 or 727-898-2100.
