Ribs and Rock on stage this weekend

ST. PETERSBURG - RibFest 2009 is Friday through Sunday, Nov. 13-15, at Vinoy Park, 701 Bayshore Drive N.E. Gates will open at 11 a.m. daily. The three-day fundraiser will feature barbecue ribs served to southern rock and country hits.
This year’s musical acts scheduled to hit the Transitions Optical Stage include Morningwood, Jet, Gator Country, Blue Oyster Cult, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Big Kenny, Sonia Leigh, Levi Lowrey, Nic Cowan and the Zac Brown Band.
Playing the Water Side Stage will be Hamlin and LA, The Ben Bryan Band, Radio Crime, Emily’s Ashes, Sheri and the Vision, Devil’s Highway, The Dr. Dave Band, Suite Caroline and Amanda Drake and the Barnburners. Online advance tickets are $10 plus service charge. Tickets are $15 the day of the show. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Ribfest 2009 marks its 21st year of helping a variety of youth-oriented causes “one rib at a time”. This fun-filled three day charity fundraiser features the best barbeque ribs in the
World, national touring artists playing classic and southern rock and country hits.
Hell on Wheels, the nations leading BMX action stunt show, sponsored by Tobacco Free Florida, will be performing throughout the weekend along with a Classic and Custom Car Show, presented by Tires Plus on Saturday.
There are fun activities for kids, too – making Ribfest a great family get-together.
Through the years Ribfest proceeds have contributed $2.8 million to local causes including:
* All Children’s Hospital and the construction of its new hospital
* Child abuse prevention – Help A Child Inc. and Family Resources
* Northeast Exchange Club service projects with Youth and Community Service
* Promoting Americanism by installing Freedom Shrines at local schools
Ribfest is the community’s way to continuing helping these youth focused causes by simply coming out and sampling the best ribs in the world, Northeast Exchange Club’s Ribfest is all about “Rockin’ Ribs – Helpin’ Kids.”
