ST. PETERSBURG – The Palladium plans a wealth of shows celebrating the season in December. Following is a snapshot of the scheduled performances.
Side Door Gospel
Side Door Gospel will feature Christmas with Elvis on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 7:30 p.m.
Come and join in the holiday spirit as entertainer Doug Wilson brings the soulful, gospel side of his Elvis routine to the Palladium’s Side Door Cabaret. Christmas with Elvis is sure to conjure up some of the “King’s” most memorable pieces such as “How Great Thou Art” and his ever popular “Blue Christmas.” So don’t be blue – just drop in and experience the warmth of Christmas with Elvis. Tickets are $15.
Ellington Christmas
The Nate Najar Trio, with special guests Ken Peplowski and the Redd Brothers, will present an Ellington Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 22, 7:30 p.m.
The great Duke Ellington and his colleague Billy Strayhorn were much taken by Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. So much so that they just had to arrange it for jazz orchestra. The result – the Jazz Nutcracker – really rocks! Join the Nate Najar Trio, with special guests Ken Peplowski on clarinet, Chuck Redd on vibraphone, and Robert Redd on piano for a rollicking rendition of this classic, plus all your favorite holiday music performed in the sophisticated jazz style that Ellington made famous.
Tickets range from $12 to $25.
‘The Elixir of Love’
The St. Petersburg Opera Company will present Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love,” performed with the FloriMezzo Orchestra, on Friday, Dec. 28, 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 30, 2 p.m.
Lovers quarrels … reconciliations … magic potions. “The Elixir of Love” is flirtatious, amusing, and a bit tongue-and-cheek. Nemorino hopelessly woos Adina for her unattainable love until a quack doctor comes to town and changes everything. Spun with beautiful melodies and heart melting arias, this is comic opera at its sparkling best.
Sung in Italian with English subtitles. Tickets range from $18.70 to $75.
The Palladium is at 253 Fifth Ave. N. Call 822-3590 or visit www.mypalladium.org.
