The Palladium, Bella Brava promote 'Die Fledermaus'

ST. PETERSBURG - The Palladium Theater and Bella Brava join together to promote the Dec. 29-30 performances of "Die Fledermaus."

On Friday, Dec. 15, Side Door Opera presents Opera's Amorous Favorites, featuring cast members of "Die Fledermaus," at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Jon Truitt, Elizabeth Claxton, Kevin Courtemanche and Elizabeth Truitt will preview ensemble numbers from the upcoming Die Fledermaus performances, sing two famous duets from "La Boheme," and each sing their own favorite amorous aria from the opera repertoire. They will be accompanied by Jack Rain.

Bella Brava restaurant is teaming up with the Palladium for two nights of Italian cuisine and live opera on Saturday, Dec. 16 and 23. Performance time is 8 p.m.

On Dec. 16th, "Die Fledermaus" cast members will present a "Fledermaus Fantastico" themed evening, featuring songs from the opera. On Dec. 23, the evening will be called "Opera Ovations" and the cast will perform a wide variety of selections.

The next event set to promo the show is the "Die Fledermaus" Champagne Lunch with the Stars on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 11:30 a.m. Cost is $100.

Be the first to see a rehearsal, enjoy lunch and a champagne toast with the cast, and hear about "Opera at the Palladium" from Artistic Director, Mark Sforzini. Next up, is the main event for two shows only on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 29 and 30, 7:30 p.m. Tickets range in price from $10 to $50.

One of the most frequently performed operas in the country, "Die Fledermaus" ("the bat") is a celebration of the hedonism and naughty playfulness of 19th century Vienna nightlife.

Take one practical joke, add one amorous tenor, an ambitious maid, a mysterious "Hungarian countess," and one drunken jailor, mix them all together, and delightful insanity ensues. This magnificent comic opera, overflowing with infectious melodies and ribald antics is as irresistible as a flute of excellent champagne.
