ST. PETERSBURG - Some of the world’s top wines will flow and will be auctioned during Wine Weekend St. Pete 2013, benefiting The Stuart Society of the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg. Three exceptional events will highlight the weekend of Feb. 8-10.

Patricia Rossignol is the chair and John William Barger, the co-chair.

The festivities begin Friday, Feb. 8, with “Midnight in Paris,” a VIP and sponsor black-tie dinner at the MFA. Jean-Charles Boisset of Boisset Family Estates is the special guest of honor, and Tyson Grant, executive chef at Parkshore Grill, will prepare the French-themed six-course dinner. Please visit wineweekendstpete.org to order tickets or to learn about becoming a sponsor or VIP. You can also purchase tickets by calling 727-753-WINE (9463).

Boisset Family Estates, with roots in Burgundy, France, has been a producer and importer of fine wines since 1980. Jean-Charles has expanded this wine empire to Napa Valley, California. Raymond Vineyards, which he acquired and transformed, was named the 2013 American Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast magazine. He was previously recognized as the Wine Star Innovator of the Year in 2009. Wines from both his Burgundy and Napa Valley vineyards will be served at “Midnight in Paris.”

Boisset is not only a discerning vintner, winning high ratings for his wines, but also a leader in wine tourism. At Raymond Vineyards, he introduced the Theater of Nature, a two-acre educational display about biodynamic farming; the Red Room, a tasting lounge with a pool table and pinball machine; a luxury entertaining room; and even Frenchie, a tasting room for dogs.

Virginie Boone wrote in the Wine Enthusiast that “it’s all part of the charismatic Frenchman’s master plan to conquer the wine world in a new way, making wines from historic properties whilst blowing up the staid status quo of wine tourism.”

Boisset Family Estates is now one of the world’s largest wine companies.

The International Wine Auction at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club on Saturday, Feb. 9, will resemble the Wine Academy Awards. Rare vintages from first-growth and Grand Cru French chateaux and other major names from California will be available for bidding, along with unforgettable international trips, Michelin-starred dining, and many more surprises.

Shari and Garen Staglin are the guests of honor and Executive Chef Mark Heimann of the Vinoy will prepare the dinner. The Staglin Family Vineyard in Napa Valley is legendary. The 61-acre property is located at the base of Mount St. Joseph and the vines benefit from rich volcanic soil. Using solar power, the Staglins have created a certified organic estate.

The Staglin Family Vineyard is known worldwide for diverse wines of distinction, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sangiovese, and a Bordeaux-style blend. The Staglins are also generous philanthropists. All of the proceeds from the wines under their Salus label, named for the Roman goddess of well-being, go to mental health research.

The auction preview and wine-tasting will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m., with the live auction to follow from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7:45, along with select Staglin Family Vineyard wines. Tickets are $285. Cocktail attire is suggested.

Wine Weekend concludes with a Vintners Brunch at the Vinoy Sunday, Feb. 10, from

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be wine and champagne tastings, international culinary delights, and live music. “Meet the Artists” will feature displays by John Costin, Rudy Lopez, Allison Massari, and Donna Morrison. Tickets are $100 and the attire is resort casual.

The Stuart Society

Founded three years before the Museum opened to the public in 1965, The Stuart Society is named in honor of Museum founder Margaret Acheson Stuart (1896-1980). Over the years, this dedicated auxiliary has raised substantial funds for art acquisitions, major exhibitions, educational programs, building renovations, operations, and publications.

The Stuart Society has been the Premier Sponsor of numerous exhibitions and a Lead Sponsor for the construction of the Hazel Hough Wing, which opened to the public in March 2008. The Society initiated the Wine Auction and now the expanded Wine Weekend, as well as the spring celebration Art in Bloom. The organization’s importance to the MFA is recognized by a gallery named in its honor.
