CLEARWATER - In celebration of Florida’s strawberry season, the Clearwater Gateway Farmers Market presents the 2013 Clearwater Strawberry Festival Feb. 23 on Cleveland Street east of Missouri Avenue.
The Saturday market day will be completely dedicated to one of Florida’s most delicious crops with the theme “We Love Florida Strawberries.” Vendors will get into the spirit by dressing up themselves, their booths, and their products in a strawberry motif. And customers are invited to dress up too.
Saturday’s market offers live entertainment featuring The Island Boys, a superb steel band that is well known in the area, Wish Farms from Plant City, bringing just picked strawberries, and more than 40 other vendors including specialty foods, arts and crafts, and homemade items from our Cottage Industry vendors.
The Clearwater Strawberry Fest will take place as part of the Clearwater Gateway Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the 1200 block of Cleveland Street just east of Missouri Ave.
Parking is available at Fifth Third Bank, 1150 Cleveland St., Greektown Grill and Maxa Enterprises.
There will also be contests, prizes, children's activities and a chance to win free tickets to the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City, which begins Feb. 28.
The Clearwater Gateway Farmers Market is a partnership between the city of Clearwater, the Pinellas County Health Department’s Communities Putting Prevention to Work grant, the InterCultural Advocacy Institute, and Pinellas County Health & Human Services.
Current sponsors include Greektown Grille, The Law Firm of Francisco D. Coll, and Pinellas Community Foundation.
The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County’s Communities Putting Prevention to Work grant supports the Clearwater Gateway Farmers Market as part its promotion of healthy eating and physical activity to fight obesity. The grant was made possible by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
