27th annual Syttende Mai Regatta set for May 17

SAFETY HARBOR - The 27th annual Syttende Mai Regatta is Saturday, May 17, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Shelter 7 in Philippe Park in Safety Harbor.
Sponsored by the Sons of Norway Suncoast Lodge #562, the the regatta is held to commemorate the anniversary of May 17, 1814, the day that Norway ratified its' constitution at Eidsvoll. Norway was finally granted its' independence in 1905 and Norway's first Independence Day was celebrated May 17, 1905.
To celebrate the event, Sons of Norway lodges from around the state come together to race their Viking Boats and to feast and spread the Scandinavian culture. A lunch will be available for $8.
The celebration will culminate with an awards dinner and dance at Cove Cay. Reservations are required for lunch and dinner. To make reservations for lunch or dinner, call S. Inman at 727-391-2333 by May 11, 2008. For more information, call 727-517-3748.
