TREASURE ISLAND – The sixth edition of Treasure Island’s annual Bands on the Sand celebration is set Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25 on the beach at 104th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard.

Music, food and drink will flow both days from 1 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.

Headlining this year’s event is the Rev. Funky D’s Home Team Family Orchestra Saturday night at 6:30 and Come Back Alice Sunday evening at 7.

“The powerhouse combination of so many headliner-quality acts, a ‘let the good times roll' audience, and the laid-back atmosphere of our Gulf front community make Bands on the Sand the only place to be on Memorial Day weekend,” said Cathy Hayduke, Treasure Island’s director of parks and recreation.

Saturday’s music starts at 1:45 p.m. with Displace, followed by Applebutter Express at 3 and Green Sunshine at 4:30.

Opening Sunday at 1:45 p.m. will be the Free Range Roosters, playing acoustic Americana, blues, gypsy, jazz and “cracker folk.”

Have Gun, Will Travel follows at 3:30 p.m., followed by the reggae, funk and blues sound of Holey Miss Moley at 5:15.

Rev. Funky D brings the top players of Tampa Bay’s jam-band scene to Treasure Island for 2 1/2 hours of jamming. The group features members of Cope, Green Sunshine, Applebutter Express, Shoeless Soul, Urban Gypsies and Seratonic.

Come Back Alice, one of the hottest bands currently in Tampa Bay, features melodic guitars and baroque style violin, along with some funky bass and drums.

The annual festival, produced by the City of Treasure Island Parks & Recreation Department, also includes dozens of arts and crafts vendors, a fireworks display at 8:50 on May 24th, and plenty of food and drink.

All-day parking for Bands on the Sand 6 is $10 in the following lots:

• Treasure Island Park, 104th Avenue

• Allied Insurance, 104th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard

• Empty Buccaneer Lot, 108th to110th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard

Metered parking available at Community Center (behind Walgreens at 106th Avenue), Gulf Front Park (104th and Gulf) and St Pete Municipal lot (112th & Gulf). City Hall Parking (120 108th Avenue) is limited but free.
