Dinosaurs! The Exhibition opens at MOSI on June 13
Article published on Monday, June 9, 2008
TAMPA - Gigantic dinosaurs roamed the earth millions of years ago and are now making a comeback. DINOSAURS! The Exhibition will debut at MOSI on Friday, June 13, and continues through Sept. 13.

The exhibition travels back in time to the Mesozoic era when dinosaurs ruled the Earth.

The 5,000-square-foot exhibit will give visitors an up-close view of ten robotic dinosaurs. Gaze at the Pteranodon–a huge flying reptile with a 23-foot wingspread–soaring high overhead. See the giant animatronic Ankylosaurus with her two young, and then enter the realm of the carnivorous Tyrannosaurus Rex – the Dinosaur King. Also on display is the Parasaurolophus, Stegasaurus and Triceratops with her two young.

In addition to watching these giants come to life, visitors young and old will feel like true paleontologists while exploring through a Dino dig box, creating fossil artwork at two rub stations and operating a hands-on control box which will allow them to move the “skeleton” of a dinosaur.

The robotic giants were created by Kokoro of Japan and Los Angeles. More than 1,500 of Kokoro’s animated forms have appeared in museums throughout the world since 1969. The creatures were constructed based on evidence from fossil records, scientific literature and professional paleontologists. Each model is individually computer programmed and powered by an intricate compressor system.
