CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Threshers are hosting Veterans and Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Bright House Field, 601 Old Coachman Road. Gates open at 5 p.m. for the 6:30 p.m. game against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. There will be post-game fireworks at the ballpark.
Florida Chapter 11 of Rolling Thunder, Inc. will dedicate a mobile POW/MIA Chair of Honor during a pre-game ceremony on the concourse behind home plate at 5:30 p.m. The empty chair will serve to honor the thousands of military personnel who are or were prisoners of war or have been declared missing in action.
Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos will speak at the dedication. The Threshers players will wear special camouflage jerseys for the game that will be up for a silent auction. Before the game, there will be parachute jumpers landing on the field and a swearing-in ceremony for new military members. On site will be Veterans Affairs representatives, recruiters from all branches, interactive military displays and specialty vendors, as well as military vehicles on display.
All current and former service members may purchase a $5 Field Box ticket or a $15.50 Hot Corner Café ticket, which includes an all-you-can-eat menu. A portion of every military ticket sold will benefit the Haley House Fund and the Injured Warriors Fund of Florida. Bosley and Bratch will offer a free $5 Field Box ticket to the first 500 veterans or active military personnel who respond to the offer.
The first 1,000 guests will receive a camouflage Threshers drawstring backpack, courtesy of First Priority. The Bright House Field Ticket Office may be reached at 467-4457.
