Racers are ready to go at the first annual Achieva Credit Union Box Car Rally. The second annual event is Saturday, Sept. 17, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in downtown Clearwater.
CLEARWATER – Achieva Credit Union is hosting its second annual box car rally Saturday, Sept. 17, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Osceola and Cleveland Streets, in the Cleveland Street district of Downtown Clearwater.
The event will benefit Pinellas County classrooms in the form of grants administered by the Pinellas Education Foundation. In 2010, the event yielded $15,000 in grants to Pinellas County Classrooms.
This free-to-attend, family-friendly event will feature box car racing, food, drinks, balloons, music, kid’s events, 50/50, raffles, a dunk tank and local merchant tables and tents. Race classes will include Pee Wee, age 7 to 12; teen, 13-17; adult, 18 and older; and corporate, adult.

Street closures
Several streets in downtown Clearwater will be closed on Saturday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Cleveland Street from Fort Harrison Avenue to the Drew Street Extension
• The Drew Street Extension from Osceola Avenue to the downtown waterfront
• Osceola Avenue from Laura to Cleveland streets
Drew Street and Fort Harrison Avenue can be used as detour routes for these closures.
