Bright House Networks presents Clearwater’s Blast Friday at the Cleveland Street District Sept. 28.
CLEARWATER – Bright House Networks presents Clearwater’s Blast Friday at the Cleveland Street District Sept. 28. The new season will be launched with a performance by Atlanta Rhythm Section on the Tampa Bay Times Cleveland Street Stage directly in front of the Capitol Theatre in downtown Clearwater.
The free street festival will feature a variety of vendors, as well as food, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. The street fair begins at 5:30 p.m. with entertainment outside until 10 p.m. Blast Friday is produced by Ruth Eckerd Hall on the Road Presents.
For more than 30 years, members of Atlanta Rhythm Section have entertained audiences all over the world with their hits. Members originally came together as a session band at Studio One, an Atlanta area studio recording artists such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Al Kooper, Dickey Betts and .38 Special. The band put out 15 albums of excellent original material, and consistently put on entertaining live shows establishing a broad and loyal fan base. ARS was paired with contemporaries Lynyrd Skynyrd as the successors to the Allman Brothers, carrying the mantle of Southern Rock in the late ‘70s, but performing songs that were more musically diverse and having hits that had a softer, pop flavor, they had a sound all their own. Influenced by music coming out of England and sharing the musical styling of groups likes The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, the members of ARS were accomplished musicians who constantly tried to evelove. With multiple gold and platinum albums to their credit, the band had two Top 10 singles, So Into You and Imaginary Lover, as well as a number of Top 40 hits including Champagne Jam, Doraville, I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight, Do It Or Die and Spooky.
Admission to Blast Friday is free. Tickets for all Capitol Theatre and Ruth Eckerd Hall events will be on sale at the Capitol Theatre Ticket Office located in front of Capitol Theatre throughout Blast Friday and are available all other times at the Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office located at 1111 McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater, by calling 727-791=7400 or online at www.atthecap.com. BLAST Friday is proudly sponsored by Bright House Networks, the Tampa Bay Times, The Eagle 107.3, and the Hyatt Regency of Clearwater Beach, and is supported by the City of Clearwater, the Cleveland Street District and the Downtown Development Board.
The City of Clearwater and Ruth Eckerd Hall have joined forces to renovate and revitalize the intimate Capitol Theatre located on downtown Clearwater’s beautiful Cleveland Street. Constructed and established in 1921, this classic structure, complete with a large mezzanine and furnishings reminiscent of a classic Hollywood theater, is one of the oldest operating theatres in the state of Florida. In 2009, the Clearwater City Council designated the Capitol Theatre a historical landmark. This is the first such designation by the city. Ruth Eckerd Hall and the Capitol Theatre are 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations.
