OLDSMAR – The Upper Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce plans its 18th annual Top o’ the Bay Oktoberfest Oct. 18-20 at Tampa Bay Downs.
The event traditionally brings the best of Old Bavaria and new Florida together for three full days of authentic German food, drink, music and dancing, along with a spectacular carnival and midway, and an arts and crafts show.
A trio of “oom-pah” bands will entertain beginning on Friday night with Orlando-based Europa, a perennial Oktoberfest favorite that tours nationally.
Saturday morning will feature Joe Oberaitus and Oktoberfest Express, one of the top German bands in the South that is one of the house bands at EPCOT’s German Village.
Finishing out the weekend will be the Aex Meixner Band, which also tours nationally. Meixner is a Grammy-nominated musician and producer who plays a variety of instruments.
There also will be hourly contests on and around the main stage. They include stein holding, log sawing, keg tossing and barrel rolling.
Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday; and noon to 7 p.m., Sunday.
