MADEIRA BEACH - The annual Grouper Fest on Saturday, Oct. 29, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 30, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at John's Pass, will once again offer family festivities. This year's theme is Fishermen Lost at Sea, and donations for a memorial at John's Pass will be accepted during the event.
Among the many features of the event is an art show where more than 50 artists will show their work; a fishing expo and heritage area showcasing a large collection of Florida fossils; a shark jaw collection; and a children's area with a bouncing tower.
A children's costume contest will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m. All participants will receive gift certificates to the Friendly Fisherman and Tampa Bay Ghost Tours, and the winner gets a brand new bike.
In time for Halloween, Tampa Bay Ghost Tours will present a Haunted House on the boardwalk on Friday, Oct. 28, through Monday, Oct. 31, noon to 9 p.m.
Grouper Fest is organized by the John's Pass Merchants Association. Visitors to the event will have access to 325 parking spaces in the new parking garage immediately adjacent to John's Pass boardwalk.
