Memorial Toy Run set for Dec. 5

ST. PETERSBURG - Jimís Harley-Davidson of St. Petersburg will be hosting its 23rd annual Jim Rosenkrans Memorial Toy Run on Sunday, Dec. 5.

This charity Toy Run is to takes place from Jimís Harley-Davidson on a pre-determined route through St. Petersburg, St. Pete Beach and Pass-A-Grille. Participants will be leaving the dealership at 10 a.m.

Every participant must furnish a new, unwrapped toy or a $15 donation. Bring in 4 cans of food and receive a commemorative drink coolie. Pre-registration ends Friday, Dec. 3, with last-minute pre-registration ending Dec. 5 at 9 a.m.

The Toy Run started in 1979 where Jamie Rosenkrans, owner, was teaching at Skyview, Rio Vista and Woodlawn Elementary. It was then that Jim, former owner and former St. Pete Fire Fighter, and Jamie decided to create a vehicle for giving back to the community.

The event has grown much since then with the banner yearís roster consisting of 2,500 people and 1,800 bikes compared to the 30 motorcycles in its inaugural year.

The event has raised over $1 million dollars since its inception.

Not forgetting its humble beginnings, the Toy Run is still a major event for the dealership where owner Jamie Rosenkrans insists that no child be without a toy on Christmas.

Jim Rosenkrans passed away in 1988. Since then, the Toy Run has been renamed the ďJim Rosenkrans Memorial Toy RunĒ and although Jim is no longer here to share this momentous occasion, his memory lives on in the Toy Run.

Toy Run route directions

Start: Jimís Harley-Davidson of St. Petersburg, 2805 54th Ave. N., St. Petersburg.

Leave Jimís and head West on 54th Ave. N.

Turn Left on Park St. N. and head South

Turn Right onto Bay Pines Blvd. and head North West

Take Bay Pines Blvd. and merge onto State Road 666

State Road 666 becomes the Tom Stuart Causeway

Take a Left onto Gulf Blvd. and head South East

Gulf Blvd. becomes Blind Pass Rd.

Turn Right at 75th Ave. N. and head South West for 2 blocks

Turn Left at Gulf Blvd. and head South East

Gulf Blvd. becomes Pass-A-Grille Way

Turn Right at 22nd Ave. and head West for 2 blocks

Turn Left at Gulf Way and head South

Turn Left at 8th Ave. and head East for 2 blocks

Halfway Point

Turn Left at Pass-A-Grille Way and head North

Pass-A-Grille Way becomes Gulf Blvd.

Turn Right onto 75th Ave. and head North East

Take the St. Pete Causeway to Pasadena Ave. S. and head NE

Turn Right on 1st Ave. S. and head East

Turn Left at 28th Street and head North

Turn Left onto 54th Avenue and head West

Turn Right into Jimís parking lot.
