CLEARWATER – Bright House Networks presents Clearwater’s Blast Friday with a performance by Little River Band on the Tampa Bay Times Cleveland Street Stage directly in front of the Capitol Theatre in downtown Clearwater on Friday, Nov. 30.
This free street festival will feature a variety of vendors, as well as food, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. The street fair begins at 5:30 p.m. with entertainment outside until 10 p.m. Blast Friday is produced by Ruth Eckerd Hall On The Road.
Little River Band was formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1975. It was originally a blend of musicians who had enjoyed success in other Australian acts. Their new focus was to get airplay on American radio and they achieved that goal with good song writing, powerful vocals, and guitar harmonies. They immediately claimed their place as one of the great vocal bands of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Some of their chart-topping hits include It's a Long Way There, Help Is on Its Way, Happy Anniversary, Reminiscing, Lady, and Cool Change.
Little River Band is considered one of Australia's most significant bands. Worldwide album and CD sales have reached more than 30 million. They were also the first band to set a record for having Top 10 hits for six consecutive years. According to BMI, Reminiscing has garnered rare status with more than 5 million airplays on American radio. LRB was rightfully inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame at the 18th Annual ARIA Music Awards of 2004.
Things have gotten very busy for Little River Band in the last few years. From 2007 through 2012, the band has performed more than 800 live shows. There has also been a lot of studio activity in that time, with the recording of the following CDs: Rearranged, Standing Room Only, Outback, a cover of the Beatles In My Life for a compilation CD, and LRB's first Christmas CD, We Call It Christmas.
The current lineup brings new energy and arrangements to the classic hits, making new memories for the audience with each live performance. It's always fun to watch as people are swept up by the show's vitality and the volume of hits from LRB's history.
Blast Friday was established in 2009 as downtown Clearwater’s free, family-friendly street festival. Supported by the City of Clearwater, the Cleveland Street District and the Downtown Development Board and produced by Ruth Eckerd Hall On The Road, Blast Friday hosts 10 events per year bringing more than 40,000 people to downtown Clearwater.
