CLEARWATER - Movies return to the Capitol Theatre in downtown Clearwater’s Cleveland Street District just in time for the holidays. The film series continues with two iconic holiday films: Die Hard and Home Alone.
Presented by 97X and Creative Loafing, the Cult Movie Series returns with a screening of Die Hard on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 8 p.m.
On Christmas Eve, NYPD detective John McClane, played by Bruce Willis, tries to save his wife and several others taken hostage by highly organized criminals during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles. Constantly finding its way to the top of both action and Christmas film rankings, Die Hard was nominated for four Academy Awards® and spawned a franchise of films that continues to thrill moviegoers.
Presented by Tampa Bay Parenting Magazine and Magic 94.9, Home Alone will screen on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. as part of the Family Movie Series.
The film stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old boy who is mistakenly left behind when his family flies to Paris for their Christmas vacation. While initially relishing time by himself, he is later greeted by two would-be burglars played by Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci, leaving Kevin to defend their home. Home Alone was the #1 film at the box office for 12 straight weeks upon its release and was so popular, ticket sales landed it in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest grossing live-action comedy ever.
