CLEARWATER - West Coast Players is auditioning for Taling With... by Jane Martin, directed by Colleen Coughenour, Sunday and Monday, Feb. 23-24, 7 p.m., in the lobby of the West Coast Players Theatre, 21905 U.S. 19 N., Clearwater.
Talking With... is a collection of extraordinary monologues written by the mysteriously pseudonymous Jane Martin. These eleven monologues make up an "evening of idiosyncratic characters who amuse, move and frighten, always speaking from the depths of their souls” and range from “a baton twirler who has found God through twirling, a fundamentalist snake handler, and ex-rodeo rider crowded out of the life she has cherished by men in three-piece suits who want her to dress up ‘like Mini Damn Mouse in a tutu, an actress willing to go to any length to get a job” to an old woman whose dream is to live in McDonald's.
The script calls for 11 actresses ranging in age from 20s- 70s. Auditions will be readings from the script. Scripts will be available at the theatre for perusal starting at 6 each night of auditions. Also, some of these monologues can be found online. Monologues range from 9-12 minutes, so the ability to memorize a substantial text and sustain a character is essential.
Performance dates are April 18 - May 4.
Talking With... is the winner of the 1982 American Theatre Critics Association Award, Best Regional Play.
