Cody Carlson stars in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat playing through March 28 at Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center.
TARPON SPRINGS - Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, with lyrics by Tim Rice and Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, continues weekends through March 28 at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

This exciting production brings the Biblical saga of Joseph (Cody Carlson) and his coat of many colors to vibrant life.

In this delightful musical parable, Joseph is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams and is his father's favorite son. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged.

He is purchased by Potiphar (Mike Fornino) where thwarting advances from Potiphar's wife (Katherine Grace) lands him in jail. When news of Joseph's gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh (riotously depicted as Elvis, played by Tim Rankin), Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command.

Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel.

Set to an engaging mix of musical styles, from country and calypso to pop and rock, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoatwas first performed in the United States in 1976 in New York. It was revived off-Broadway in 1981 in a production starring Bill Hutton and later, David Cassidy and ran for 824 performances. Recent productions have starred Donny Osmond in Toronto and Michael Damian on Broadway.

Tickets are $16; $14, members; $12, students and available at the box office 727-942-5605 or online at www.tarponarts.org.
