Stages brings fairy tale classics to life
Article published on Wednesday, April 16, 2008
LARGO - Two shows remain in the 2007-08 Children’s Family Theatre Series presented by Stages Productions at Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive.

“The Ugly Duckling” will be presented on Saturday, April 19, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Born bigger and different than the other hatchlings, the Ugly Duckling is ridiculed by his brothers and sisters, rejected by the other ducks and eventually shunned by the entire barnyard. He soon leaves home, embarking on a journey through hecklers, hunters and hilarious high jinks only to discover that the beauty he was seeking was inside him all along.

For over two centuries, Hans Christian Andersen's classic has been a childhood favorite all over the world. Stages Productions will revive the classic tale in this brand new musical.

“The Princess and the Pea” will be presented on Saturday, May 10, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

One of Hans Christian Andersen's most famous tales will burst to life with vibrant color and originality. Performed in the classic Renaissance comedy style, stock characters such as Harlequino (the conniving clown), Columbina (the mischievous servant) and the entire royal court learn valuable lessons about first impressions, personal decision making and true love. With mistaken identities, hilarious high jinks and star-crossed romance.

Tickets for each show are $7 adult and $5 children. Call 587-6793.
