CLEARWATER - The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts at Ruth Eckerd Hall announces its Summer Arts 2014 program. Kicking off June 9, classes provide an opportunity for local children to explore talents and experience the arts with professional arts instructors and perform in a professional setting.
Classes are available for ages 3 through 18 for all experience levels, and are taught by instructors with years of instruction and/or performance experience in music, theatre, movement, and dance.
One-week, half-day classes for artists ages three to four allow our youngest students to discover theatre, music, movement and visual arts through a story based theme. Classes include: Fairies In The Moonlight, Peter Rabbit And Farmer McGregor, as well as Once Upon a Seashore, part of our Fun Music Time series. Classes are limited to twelve participants unless otherwise noted.
The popular themed dramatics classes return, exploring a different area of knowledge each week including Finance, Geography, History, Marine Ecology, and Heros. Classes are available for ages 5-7 and 8-10 and include Despicable Money, Muppet Mapquest, Time Tunnel Treehouse, Dolphin Tales, and Lego Land. Students participating in Marine Ecology week will also participate in a field trip to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
Performance, Themed Singing & Movement, and Specialty Classes, and Private Lessons are also available for ages 4-14. Individual instruction is available for students wishing to strengthen their performance skills in voice, piano, drama, dance, guitar, drums and violin. Other areas of study can be arranged on request.
After the success of last summer’s student production of Shrek The Musical, students ages 13-18 can enroll in a special two week camp producing Disney’s Beauty and The Beast. The camp will run from July 14 to 25, leading up to a special performance at the all new Capitol Theatre on Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26.
A fully costumed “concert” stage production, the two week rehearsal period will focus on vocal production and character development.
The Tampa Bay Tap Festival will also return to the Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts this summer. Drawing tap students ages 12 and up from throughout the country, this year’s seminars will be taught by tap sensations Lisa La Touche (Rhumba Tap, touring cast of Stomp!, and Jacobs Pillow Faculty member) and Anthony Russo (Tap Dogs, Bad Boys of Dance’s “Tap Stars”, “Pulse” and Cirque Du Soleil’s “Banana Shpeel”).
Students enrolled in the Summer Arts 2014 also have access to our popular EVOS weekly lunch program. With a variety of healthy menu choices available, orders are made online through the EVOS website.
Tuition assistance is also available for eligible students. For more information and to register, call 727-712-2706.
